Over priced and my child barely got any attention....3 kids to each teacher all of the time. No one seemed to really take the time or care.

Do you have any other comments or suggestions for parents who are considering using this resource?
Don't bother!

Learning Center Loan?!

How old is your child?

Please describe your experience with a learning center.

We looked into this service, but chose another option.

If you are or were dissatisfied with this service, or if you chose another option, please explain why:

After paying $150 for testing, we were told that our son needed about $5000 worth of tutoring and they told us we could take out a loan!!!

Do you have any other comments or suggestions for parents who are considering using this resource?

We are looking at other options. Learning centers are way too expensive and we were shocked to be told that they would set up a loan for us. Our son's teacher told us not to bother, that she would stay after and help him, thank God.

We have used it in the past and we were dissatisfied.

If you are or were dissatisfied with their service, or if you chose another option, please explain why:
It is misleading - my child was seated at a table with several other students, one of which was a high school student. This place is a rip off.

Do you have any other comments or suggestions for parents who are considering using this resource?
Don't waste your money!!

Explore individual learning options.

The real problem with learning centers is that they don't teach kids how to be independent learners. By holding their hand for 1, 2, 3 years (or more), kids learn to depend on them. Parents don't generally mind because yes, their kids are getting better grades. That is until 11th, 12th and their first year of college, when students and parents realize that they didn't learn how to learn!

Almost 3/4 of the people who write to me are parents and students who have already spend over $10,000 on private tutors and learning centers. Learning centers and private tutors are totally inexperienced in helping students learn the skills to learn what they're teaching. As an adult, you know that “learning to learn” is even more important than learning the specific A, B, C's of whatever you're studying. When you know how to learn, you can tackle any subject with confidence and success.

By simply “re-teaching” material, learning centers and tutors are ramming information down your child's throat, instead of teaching them how to feed themselves knowledge.

Explore and use software, videos, CDs, etc. to enhance your child's sence of self learning.

Terribly expensive and they don't seem to take the time they need to for each child. They don't tell you that your child is with other students of all ages. What a surprise this place was.

Don't torture your kids!

Thinking of a learning center or private tutor? Go right ahead if you enjoy spending thousands to torture your child!

Your kid just spent 7-8 hours at school. Why are you going to subject them to another grueling 1-2 hours? Sitting still, listening to something they don't really care about, from someone they don't really like? And then still have mounds of homework to do?!

Why not teach your kids to get it right the first time? To make the most out of the school day, so when they come home they have time to explore, imagine, and play. (like children are supposed to)

The learning center scam...

Thinking about sending your child to one of those expensive learning centers?

Let me tell you a little secret...every single learning center does exactly the same thing to get results; they lessen the class size.

That's it! There are no tricks, no secrets. They lessen the class size and then teach exactly the same curriculum regarding subject matter and study skills that you could get for FREE at any public school.

You can save yourself THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS by simply asking your child's teacher for help regarding study skills. Every certified teacher is familiar with, and has been instructed in the use traditional study skills. While these skills are not for everyone, they will put you and your child in the right direction. (Keep reading for more tips)

By giving more individual attention to students, they can "catch" kids daydreaming or falling asleep and keep them on task. (And they will...those learning centers are deathly boring)

So basically, that $7K (for the big S learning center) you will drop is for free information, from a living textbook/babysitter who will bore your kids to tears.

Dissatisfied With Learning Centers

How old is your child?

Please describe your experience with learning centers.
We have used it in the past and we were dissatisfied.

If you are or were dissatisfied with this service, or if you chose another option, please explain why:
Three students of varying age and ability meet with one instructor to work on reading, writing or math.

The instructor was not at all responsive to our son, didn't learn his name, and was not prepared for the lesson.

Do you have any other comments or suggestions for parents who are considering using this resource?
I would find private educational companies that are not franchises or national chains. The owners of local educational programs seem to care more about the needs of each and every student.
