May 3, 2002, Newsletter Issue #43: A Simple Kite to Make

Tip of the Week

You can make a pretty kite to run with and flutter in the wind.

You will need a sheet of paper, markers or crayons, tape, and a 3´ length of string.

Decorate your paper. Make it pretty.

Now fold your paper in half long ways. Unfold it. Tape one end of the string on the crease at the top. Tape the other end of the string on the crease at the bottom.

You are ready to fly your kite. Hold the string in the middle and run. The kite will twirl and flutter.

Try folding the paper in other ways and retaping the string to see what makes your kite fly better. Try making a tail of string and paper. Try cutting the paper into a different shape. You will have fun making each kite prettier and a better flyer.
