March 29, 2002, Newsletter Issue #38: Money Makes Good Cents

Tip of the Week

Here is a good math project if you get to earn money. Ask your parents to pay you in pennies. Save them in a jar. Count them once a week. Make a chart to show how much you earn each week.
Once a month, sort your pennies into piles. When you have five pennies, trade them for a nickel. How many nickels do you have?
You can also trade two nickels for a dime. How many dimes would you have?
How many nickels do you need to get a quarter? How many quarters would you have?
It is fun to count your own money. You will soon have lots of cents ... and money sense, too!
