March 23, 2001, Newsletter Issue #12: Improve Your Reading and Your IQ

Tip of the Week

1. Choose something to read that you like. A game magazine, sports articles, sport cards, fashion, or romance are all good reading if you that`s what you like to read.
2. Have a thesaurus handy to find words you don`t know. Don`t skip them. The point of reading is to understand what the words mean.
3. Read out loud. Get a partner and take turns reading so you can also listen.
4. Read it again. Once you figure out a difficult sentence, read it again until it makes sense and sounds good.
5. Talk to your partner, friends, or family about what you read. If you have to explain it, you will understand it better.
6. Read often. Put something to read anywhere you spend a few minutes. Keep magazines in the bathroom, bedroom, car, on the front porch, or in your backpack.

Soon reading will be easy and fun.
